Channel 4

Channel 4 is a British free-to-air public-service television network. Its headquarters is based London and its national headquarters stationed in Leeds. The service has been running since the 2nd of November 1982 and is owned by Alex Mahon since 2017. Its remit is to focus on untold stories, to innovate and be bold, to inspire change in how we live our lives and to stand up for diversity around the UK.

I will be researching and finding documentaries broadcasted by Channel 4, seeing if they reflect the services ambitions.

 Extreme Everest with Ant Middleton

Growing Up Poor: Breadline Kids:

A very British hotel

60 days on the street

From what documentaries I have found it is clear to me that Channel 4 clearly represents diversity, Inspiration and Innovation. The documentary series "Extreme Everest" with Ant Middleton follows his  journey to reach the summit and focuses on all the hardships he is faced with from his determination. From watching the documentary I gained Inspiration as to how life should be lived and that life should be lived to the best of your ability. The documentary series was furthermore Innovative and bold as its concept was original and unique.

The documentary "Growing Up Poor: Breadline Kids:" and "60 days on the street" both highlight an increasing rate in poverty. This I found was a great example of diversity in the way that Channel 4 chose to present a different way of life that many aren't familiar with. The last documentary "A very British hotel" further more represents diversity as it focuses on the other end of poverty and a wealthier lavished lifestyle.

Finally a distinctly noticeable trend I picked up on when looking through documentaries on Channel 4 was that the main thumbnails were very diverse and included all people from different ethnicities, religions, and genders.
